Image related to Varithena Varicose Vein Treatment | Buffalo, NY

What is Varithena®?

Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) is a drug / device combination that generates microfoam for ultrasound guided injection. Varithena improves the symptoms of superficial venous reflux disease as well as improving the appearance of varicose veins. It is the only FDA approved foam used to treat varicose vein problems.

Varithena is Proven to Improve the Following Symptoms:

  • Heaviness
  • Achiness
  • Swelling
  • Throbbing
  • Itching

How Does Varithena Work?

Varithena is administered by Dr. Vasquez into the malfunctioning veins. The microfoam displaces the blood within the diseased vein and causes the vein to collapse. Blood no longer falls backward down the leg (reflux) but flows up and out of the leg through healthier veins nearby. This non-surgical procedure requires no incision and is better tolerated than other catheter techniques. The microfoam is rapidly absorbed and far more advanced than other foams available.

Treatment often takes less than 30 minutes and patients can go home the same day. Many activities can be resumed the day of treatment. Patients should follow post-treatment instructions and avoid heavy exercise for one week.

Dr. Vasquez was one of the Principal Investigators of the FDA clinical study that demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of this new drug. More information and actual study patient photos can be seen at www.Varithena.com.
